How To Recognize A Cult

(A cult is a religious group or sect.)

Does the group base their teachings on revelations or sacred writings on sources other than the Bible? (Gal. 1:8-9)
Is their primary task preaching the Bible? (1 Cor. 15:3-4)
Do they believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Christ, the anointed one of God who has come in the flesh? (1 Jn. 4:1-3)
Is Jesus the eternal Word of God? (Jn. 1:14; 2 John 9)
Do they believe that Christ’s shed blood is the only basis for forgiveness of sins? (Matt. 26:28; Heb . 9:22)
Does the group believe that Jesus physically rose from the dead? (Rom. 10: 9-10)
Are they personally trusting Jesus as their redeemer and Lord? (Ephes. 2:8)
Do they depend upon some achievements of their own for their salvation? (Ephes. 2: 9)
