He sent His word and healed them.
(Psalm 107:20)
How does God heal through His word? In Genesis 1:1 we read “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” Notice how God created. And God said, “Let there be light and there was light” (Gen.1:3). God spoke the words and they came to pass.
The worlds were created by the spoken word. (See Heb. 11:3). Creative power is contained in the words that God speaks. “God created man in His own image, in the image of God created He him” (Gen. 1:27). Because we are created in God’s image, we too create by speaking words. In Mark 11:23 it says when you speak to a mountain to be removed and not doubt in your heart you will have what you say.
Jesus said in John 6:63, “The words that I speak to you, they are spirit and they are life.” God’s word imparts divine life. When God speaks it is the same creative power that goes into action as when He spoke the world into existence. “I am the Lord; I will speak, and the word that I speak shall come to pass” (Ezek.12:25). “No word from God shall be without power” (Luke 1:37 Amp). “So shall My word be that goes forth out of My mouth; it shall not return to me void, but it shall accomplish that for which I sent it” (Isa. 55:11). When you know that His words contain creative power, you will act on them.
God says, “I am the Lord that heals you” (Exod. 15:26). “I will hasten (stand behind) my word to perform it” (Jer. 1:12). “The word of the Lord (divine instruction) endures forever” (1 Peter 1:25). If you need healing, believe God’s word to heal you. The creative power of God’s word will create in your body whatever you need to be healthy. James 2:20 says that “faith without works (or actions) is dead.” Act your faith, and God’s word will impart creative power and divine life into your body.
When I discovered this truth, I began to share it with members of my Bible study. Here are some of their testimonies:
One day I noticed Audrey walking stiff kneed. I asked what was the matter. She confessed that she was not able to bend her knees for some time. After we prayed, I told her to act on her faith and God’s word would impart creative power into her body. She was instantly healed. She walked around briskly, then jumped on the bed on her knees like a child. The final faith action was when she got on her knees on the floor and began praising the Lord.
A relative of mine, Jackie, who lives some distance away, called for prayer from her local hospital. She had not had a bowel movement for 17 days. She was frightened because her doctor had sent her to the emergency room. I went to prayer and received a word that she was healed. I called her mother to give Jackie that message when she called again. When her mother spoke that word to her, she latched onto it by faith. Later that day Jackie and her mother were on the phone again when another call came in. Jackie was put on hold. The other caller was Jackie’s younger sister. Because of sibling rivalry Jackie was furious to be put on hold. After all she was the one that was sick and needed attention. The Lord somehow got through to her that they were praying for her, so she asked God to forgive her. She soon had an urge to use the bathroom. With phone in her hand she proceeded. Much to her surprise things started happening. Her bowel movement reacted to prayer. After two hours she was completely cleansed and healed. No surgery was required. Her personal testimony is that you have to trust God and obey Him. She said she believed the words that she was healed because God does not lie.
Later, in the middle of a prayer meeting held in my living room a phone call came requesting prayer for an elderly lady. She was being rushed to a city hospital 150 miles away for emergency surgery. Xrays revealed she was suffering from gallstones. Her frantic husband called my sister for prayer. God immediately gave me a word that she was healed. I relayed the word to my sister and she passed it on to the husband. The doctors proceeded with the surgery but found no gallstones. They sent the woman home and she gradually improved. She is doing well to this day.
Through incident after incident, I have seen that God sends His word and heals us. Quoting Jackie’s testimony, “We believe because God cannot lie.”
